Additional information

Placement of an implant requires leaving sufficient amount of bone in the place of the future implant, and very often the loss of bone happens. This is due many factors. Moreover after the tooth extraction bone recession is a natural physiological process. In such situation a reconstruction surgery preparing the bone for implantation is necessary.

Sinus lift

is necessary with patients with low sinus, which makes it impossible to place implants. Sinus lift means controlled bone creation in the sinus cavity.

  • Bone augmentation (controlled bone regeneration) is issued when there is no sufficient amount of bone tissue. It leads to thickening and heightening of the bone through creation of additional bone tissue precisely in the needed place. The surgery involves putting in the regenerated area patient’s own bone material, or artificial bone-creating material and covering it with a special membrane. We use materials produced by Geistlich : Bioos and Bioguide. After a few months patient’s organism creates a bone which strong enough to bear an implant.

There are two methods of sinus lift.

  • Open method, which means that a surgeon accesses the lift through an opening made on its side, and puts the bone-creating material at the bottom of it. This method allows for much more significant lift of the sinus bottom, compared to close method. During the surgery doctors have access to the whole sinus which is one more advantage.
  • Close method (osteotomy method) is used when only a slight lift is necessary. In such case the sinus is not open but surgeons use holes drilled in the bone for future implants, and put the bone-creating material in the sinus through them. This method is less invasive, the wounds heal quicker and implants are placed during the same surgery. The disadvantages are : impossible to use when a bigger lift is necessary and lack of visual control during the surgery.
